donate to u.n.i.c.e.f. who deploying clean water and sanitation supplies, therapeutic foods, medical supplies and temporary shelter to jacmel and port-au-prince. u.n.i.c.e.f. will also be focusing on children who have become separated from their families to protect them from harm or exploitation.

donate to c.a.r.e. plans to start food distributions using stocks of high-protein biscuits from c.a.r.e. warehouses in haiti. c.a.r.e. has 133 staff who are on the ground coordinating with u.n. agencies and other aid organizations to gather more detailed information about the damage and will rapidly scale up response based on those assessments.

homemade lavender ice cream

~the lavender herb is bound to disconnect anxiety~

what you need:

*2 cup milk
*2/3 cup cream
*3 egg yolks
*3/4 cup sugar
*1 cup fresh lavender blossoms
*heavy sauce pan
*bowl to combine yolk & sugar
*strainer (if you desire)
*ice cream maker

~elsbeth using mortar & pestle to crush the lavender~

first combine the milk, cream & lavender flowers in the heavy sauce pan. then, gently warm the mixture on medium heat until foamy. in a different bowl, completely blend the egg yolk until it's thick. keep stirring & add the sugar to the yolk. strain the milk & cream to remove lavender blossoms (if desired)*we prefer it strained. add 1/2 cup of warm milk & cream mixture to eggs. blend thoroughly. finally, add this egg mixture to the milk & cream mixture to the sauce pan. cool completely in refrigerator beforing pouring into ice cream maker. **tip: infuse the milk with the herbal mixture of your choice** enjoy!
